What is Climb Today's Mountain?

Climb Today’s Mountain (CTM) is Pittsburgh's only ongoing personal growth and goal-attainment program. You can use it to:

  • Build time, money and energy – get off the treadmill of stress.
  • Set and reach personal goals – enjoy daily success.
  • Live your personal vision – change the direction of your life.

The purpose of the program is to provide adults with a supportive environment for reaching goals and making lifestyle changes. When we were children, our parents, friends and teachers had the expectation that we would learn, grow and develop new interests--and we did!  But as adults, most of our family members, friends and co-workers expect that we will stay more or less the same. Unwittingly we can buy into this and stagnate. In contrast, the Climb Today’s Mountain meeting provides a liberating atmosphere of support and expectation for change. Because everyone is there to make positive changes, they energize each other. And outside the meeting, Buddy support or mentoring can help participants keep the momentum!

The weekly two-hour format includes a Goal & Growth small group, an open period called the Action Hour, a round of networking, and "Summit," a round for celebrating accomplishments.  Participants usually become engaged in the program by choosing to work on one or more goals or projects.

The program's significance can be summed up in three statements:

1.  You have goals and you also have obstacles to those goals. These obstacles also slow your personal growth.

2.  You currently have a certain ability to reach your goals. In other words, you have a certain amount of available time, money, physical energy and skill. Since you know your ability, you can pretty much predict your chances of success or failure in the next two to four months.

3.  Intelligent use of the methods in Climb Today's Mountain can significantly boost your ability to act, and so increase your success and personal growth in the next two to four months.

What makes Climb Today's Mountain so powerful?

First, it's ongoing.  Self-help books, workshops and motivational speakers only provide brief bursts of motivation. They often don't support you long enough for you to really anchor the desired changes in your life.  Second, Climb Today's Mountain is like a Swiss Army Knife: it combines multiple tools for lifestyle learning and change.  Third, you design your own program by choosing and using only the tools you need.

What's the weekly meeting like?

7:00-8:00  Action Hour / Skill-Exchange/ Hour of Power/ Sounding Board/ Lifestyle Lab/ Advancement

You work on what you consider to be the best, most loving use of your time in a supportive atmosphere. Options include: Skill-Exchange: teaching or learning a practical skill in small groups or in pairs; doing personal goal-setting; taking part in a personal growth exercise; working on projects that you lack motivation for on your own; or Sounding Board: getting honest feedback on your plans and progress.  More.

8:00-8:05  Break

8:05-8:45 p.m. Goal & Growth Groups. In groups of three to five people, participants take turns speaking in three areas to clarify their plans and receive support:

  • 1st round: What progress have you made in the last week toward your goal or mission? What are your specific plans for next week?
  • 2nd round: What did you learn last week to advance your goal or mission?
  • 3rd round: What have you appreciated this week?

8:45-8:55  "Looking For…"

You network for the things you want. Participants sit in a large circle and take turns making requests for resources, information or help. You could be looking for anything, such as a reliable mechanic, information on budgeting, someone to teach you a computer skill, or a job lead. Then if you have the information or resource someone wants, you can let them know after the meeting.

8:55-9:00  Summit

In a large circle, participants who have had major accomplishments or appreciations can share, if they wish. An optional social time follows, the Half-Hour Café.

What are some Climb Today's Mountain themes?

  • Path Management: Keep asking yourself, "What is the best, most loving use of my time, right now?" - then do it!

  • Make reasonable stretches. Trust arithmetic: small transformations add up!
  • When it comes to success and change, many people are "locked OFF target" because they are missing one or more critical ingredients of lasting change. If you feel stuck in part of your life, you’re probably missing one or more of these ingredients for learning and change: a well-defined goal, ongoing support, practical know-how, feedback, time set-aside for practice or action on a regular basis, concentration, etc. The program has many of these ingredients built-in, and it can help you identify and find the rest.
  • Climb today’s mountain!  "Sing while you still have a song."
  • Keep your promises to others and yourself.
  • Do things that make you feel good both today and tomorrow.
  • "Where there is no love, put love, and you will find love." - Juan de Yepis y Álvarez
  • Feedback from others is critical for learning and success.

Who's going to love Climb Today's Mountain?

  • Adults who want ongoing personal support and encouragement to reach their goals.  Those who want to be around others who are making progress and growing.

  • Single adults (and those married) who are tired of superficial conversions and bar scenes, who want to talk about something more meaningful.

  • People who've spent hundreds of dollars on self-help books or seminars and who've gotten few real benefits. For a fraction of the cost, they can use the CTM program to help them review or master the knowledge they've already paid for.

  • People who want to be part of an ongoing learning community, for example, those tired of making friends in community college courses just as the course ends.

  • Those who want to network to locate or offer professional services.

  • Nonprofit organizations who tell their volunteers and donors about us. Since some of our project tools can boost the participant's spare time, money, energy and skill, they'll have more to give to their favorite causes. The more Climb Today's Mountain is embraced, the more it can increase the pool of volunteer energy and donor dollars that nonprofit organizations depend on.

What are some other benefits of participating?

* Being part of a community of actively growing people * The energy and expectation to change * Original methods for managing your life better: Path Management and Want Management * Honest feedback * Meeting new people  *  See Program Options for fifteen different ways you can use the program.

Where and when is the meeting?

The first Climb Today's Mountain location is at the Pittsburgh Mennonite Church, 4005 Murray Ave., Squirrel Hill.  The meetings are weekly, on Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m.  For directions.

What does the program cost?

Your first two meetings are free. You then pay $25 for two months or $40 for four months, so that you treat the program as a two- or four-month course in reaching goals that you create for yourself. The 32-page "Climbing Gear" Starter Kit is included with initial participation.

Who started Climb Today’s Mountain?

Climb Today's Mountain is a program of World Peace One, a tax-exempt nonprofit organization. World Peace One’s mission is to help people look at their lives and make changes that improve the quality of life for all. Since 1989, its executive director has been Tim Cimino.

Disclaimer:  You can read through this whole site, even download and use the free forms, and still not know the power of this program to change the trajectory of your life.  That's because ideas don't change people as much as people change people.  People are gradually changed by the fact of contact. That's why we encourage you to attend a meeting to experience the program first-hand.
